GREEN LAKE
 

Trekking Trek to Green Lake and Zemu Glacier which is the largest Glacier of Sikkim at the base of Mt. Kanchendzonga. Where we meet the Lachenpas the inhabitants of Northern Sikkim and trek to East Base of Mt. Kanchendzonga at Green Lake from the eastern side. Trek through villages, hill and river valleys along the foothills of the great Kanchendzonga Range. Pristine areas and villages visited by a very few westerners till today. Newly opened little trekked area close to the Tibetan border in North Sikkim. Spring is best for many varieties of Rhododendron and high altitude plant life spring/ summer treks are of interest to Bird watchers and flowering plant October-November is best for clear weather and good Mountain View.

 

GREEN LAKE TREKKING ITINERARY

Day 01: Delhi/Bagdogra (fly)/ Gangtok

Meet on arrival at Bagdogra and transfer to Gangtok via Teesta and finish with Permit formalities at Rangpo with refreshment. On arrival at Gangtok, Check in to designated hotel, free for evening and Dinner and Halt Overnight at Gangtok Hotel.


Day 02:In Gangtok
After breakfast sight seeing around Gangtok towards Flower Show Exhibition, Cottage Industries, Namgyal Research Institute of Tibetology and Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre. Lunch en-route and free time in the afternoon for necessary shopping.
Note: (one / two days in Gangtok are most essential to the valuable clients for their proper acclimatization before high altitude trek).

 

Day 03:Gangtok to Lachen (2728m) 123kms, 6 hrs
Drive from Gangtok via Kabi Lungtsok (a historical site)~ Phodong ~ Mangan ~ Chungthung and to Lachen within 4-6 hrs. Halt at Lachen in a tourist Lodge.

Day 04: Lachen to Talem (3468m) approx 13kms within 4-5 hrs trek.
The jeep will ferry clients till Zemu bridge. After that the trek begins through lush green forest and reach Tallem within 4-5 hrs nature walk.

 

Day 05:Tallem to Jakthang (3176m) 4-5hrs walk.
The trek trails are usually water logged with Rhododendron forest and fallen trees trunks rotting in the morass. Before Jakthang the path crosses the Lhonak Valley Landslides. The bridge over there is bit adventurous for the clients. Jakthang is situated on a small shepherd huts and is great fun for camping.

 

Day 06:

Jakthang to Yabuk (3978m)

The path to Yabuk climbs through the forest and after 3 hrs of walk; we reach the snout of Zemu Glacier. Yabuk is reached by lunch time and it is very important not to travel further because of acclimatization problems. Camp and halt overnight with proper rest.

 

Day 07:Yabuk to Rest Camp (4570m)
This path follows the Glacier of the Zemu. This trial is mainly over boulders and in parts is indistinct. The Zemu River rushes through the glacier and as the valley open up to the great peaks to be seen. The rest camp is camped opposite to Mt. Siniolchu and the views from the camp are awesome. This place is also known as the Snow leopard country. Because of its altitude, slow walk in recommended.

 

Day 08:At Rest Camp
Leisure walks in the Snow Leopard Valley. Halt.
 

Day09/10: Explore Zemu Glacier region by short walks.
The trail from Rest Camp Climbs gently up to the valley. Its one of the finest walking in the Himalayan. Only pray that the weather is clear, the peaks you can savor are Siniolchu, Simvo. Twins peaks, Nepal peak & Mt. Khangchendzonga.

 

Day11:Rest Camp-Yabuk Descending trek to Yabuk.

 

Day12:Yabuk-Jakthang
The trial follows through the forest
 

Day13:Jakthang-Lachen-Lachung
Little walk to Zemu and catch the motorable road to Lachen to Lachung-
(Lachung has emerged as a tourist destination with the soaring popularity of Yumthang Valley which is just 25 kms from Lachung. The village, spread out on either side of Lachung Chu, has managed to retain its unique culture and tradition. The Lachung monastery on the slop opposite to the highway is a focal point of all religious function of the local inhabitants. To get a glimpse of the religious function performed on auspicious occasions a visit to the Monastery should from part of the tour itinerary.
It is another valley opposite to Lachen and fast developing to a much visited tourist destination in Sikkim.)

 

TREK END

 

Day 14: Lachung- Gangtok

Departure from Lachen/ Lachung after breakfast and en-route also visit Phodong Monastery and Lunch at wayside restaurant at Phodong. Arrival at Gangtok by evening, Halt overnight.


Day 15:Gangtok-Bagdogra-Delhi.
Drive to Bagdogra after breakfast and to connect flight for Delhi.
